Home Security systems are usually installed to provide the homeowner with some peace of mind in knowing that if somebody breaches your home, the system is going to notify the company that is monitoring your system and that company will attempt to notify you. It is common to have magnetic contacts on
your perimeter doors and multiple motion sensors around the house. Sometimes magnetic contacts are placed on windows too.
Another form of security comes in the form of cameras and digital video recorders ( DVRs). Cameras are installed near areas where someone is most likely going to try to break into your house. The cameras are connected to the DVR and everything that the camera sees is recorded on the DVR. So if someone breaks into your home you would have a picture of them stored on your DVR that you can provide to law enforcement and/or criminal prosecutors.
Security systems also come in handy for automation features. When you open a perimeter door at night, the security system notifies the lighting control system and the light outside is turned on. Also, the motion sensors could be used to determine activity in a room and it could turn the light off after a certain period of no activity.
