Lighting Control
Lighting control systems  give you the ability to automate your lights, fans, water features or just about any other electrical device.  This has several advantages over a lighting system that is wired conventionally.   For example, if you have eight separately controlled lights in a room, a conventional lighting system would have a toggle switch for each light.  So you would have a bank of eight switches.  Whereas, with a lighting control system you would have a single keypad with up to eight buttons on it and each button would have a label describing its function.  This is an improvement in both aesthetics and ease of use.

A lighting control system can also turn lights on and off based on time of day including offsets from sunrise and sunset using its internal astronomical clock.  This is very convenient for landscape lights or raising and lowering shades at specific times of day.

Lights can also be triggered to go on when you walk into a room and off after you leave.     This should save a few dollars on the energy bill.  And by setting the dim level to 90% instead of 100% the light bulb will last quite a bit longer and you will consume less electricity.

Another nice feature of a lighting control system is the ability to turn multiple lights on or off with a single button press.  We can setup a scene that brings up a group of lights with each light set at any level.  Examples of this include an Entertain scene or a Romantic scene.  And how about a Goodnight button in the master bedroom that turns off all of the lights or an Away button that will turn off all lights as you are leaving the house.

For existing homes, wireless systems are available with the same set of features discussed above.

To summarize, a lighting control system:
  • Improves aesthetics because less keypads are needed
  • Saves energy using lower dim levels and automated off functions
  • Improves usability because each button is labeled with what it does.
  • Saves you energy and time because you can turn all lights off with a single button
  • Bulbs last longer
  • Added convenience of turning lights on and off at specific times of day
  • New or existing homes
Lighting control is one of those things that after you live with it for awhile you wonder how you ever lived without it.
